Thread Painting
In a family of Rickshaw pullers and tea stall workers, Gopal Biswas is an exception. He had a natural inclination towards sketching and painting since childhood. Making thread paintings was part of experimenting with something new.
Gopal or Bonku as relatives call him lives in Dum Dum, Kolkata.
He makes one of a kind portraits using threads and needles. He calls his art soonch sutor chhobi. He makes portraits of celebrities from the field of sports, politics and movies alike.
